Where's my Coffee ? and watch out for that TIGER!

Lets assume that we have created a password protected folder and have named it "Members Area(review instructions here:)
and that our website is called:   http://bluevodaforums.com

Now the first thing we must do is to publish an index page to the protected area/folder   (every new folder MUST have an index page)
SAMPLE index page:

We must first publish this index page to:   public_html/membersarea    (Note the folder name as above)

Now, Any link to this protected area would  be: http://bluevodaforums.com/membersarea   (No file name is required as this is the index page)

( You can test this now by clicking here:   ( username = member  password = member )
(You will be linked back to this page)

Your index page should also contain any links to your other pages within the protected folder.

So if we had a page named as special_offers  then we would publish it to:    public_html/membersarea
and the link would be:   http://bluevodaforums.com/membersarea/special_offers.html

Reminder:
index page should be named and saved as index (small letters and nothing else)
Links should be in small letters with no spaces between the words (use the underscore character to join the words)
and CHECK YOUR SPELLING  (page name and link name should be exactly the same and normally finish with the .html extension)

I have a folder entitled "Attorneys."  Then a subfolder with, let's say, John Doe's name in that folder.  I have assigned a password to the subfolder.  When I try to preview it, the page comes up and it looks very generic as follows:

Name                   Last modified           Size    Description
Parent Directory

How can I make that page look like the pages of my Web site?

publish an index page to EVERY new folder that you create

This new index page can have all the attributes of your other site pages.

I put an index fiile in each folder.  Now the files that I want them to have access to aren't listed anymore.  The only thing that comes up is the index page.  This is all new to me.

Your index page should contain links to the other pages within that protected area.
Name and publish all other pages with their normal names (not index)

Dont worry about being new at this, we all had to start somewhere.

Any more problems, please post again.

Would the answer be the same if I'm trying to direct them to a folder that contains files that I want them to download to their computer and not just a page that I am directing them to?

You must direct them to a page which contains a download link, yes.

I have figured out how to have a download link for one file, but I want a download link for an entire folder for them to have access to and be able to download any of the files in that folder.  Is there a way to do that without having to do a link for every individual file?  I will be adding files daily and I don't want to have to assign a link for every individual file.

You could put all the files into one zip file and let them download that....................

I can do a ZIP file for each job, which could contain a couple of files.  But these are documents that the people need to download as they are completed.  Once the document is completed, they will download it.  When the next document is completed, they will download it.  But I don't want them all in the same ZIP file.  Only one ZIP file per document.  BUT this is going to be very time consuming to have to make a link for every document.  This is daily, weekly.  Is there not a way for them to be able to log into their individual folder that lists all the documents I put in there for them as they become available?

With respect, I am not a mind reader, and each of your questions leads to another question and I know nothing about your proposed website.

You have 2 alternatives on the info that you given me so far:

1)   create a seperate protected folder for each person and do what you like within each folder

2)  use a membership type program to control entry to files/documents by username and password

I am constructing a new website, www.wicklowmvc.net, using BlueVoda Website Builder
I have two problems: -
1) I created a new folder "memarea", which I password protected and moved the Members Page file into it. Now when I open the site and click the Members Page button I get a page with the words "Submit Query" preceded by a red dot at the top and all the buttons are replaced by similar red dots. I should say that the first time I clicked Members Page the form for the User and Password came up, which I duly filled in. This does not appear any more.
2) Assuming I get over problem #1, how do I create an index page for my password protected folder "memarea" as instructed in your Step by Step Example?

Can you help me with problem #1 or direct me to where I might address the issue? Perhaps this will automatically answer problem #2!
